A nursing home or facility provides 24-hour care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care. Services or amenities include nursing care and treatments, medication administration and supervision, assistance with personal care and activities of daily living, laundry, planned activities, incontinence management and access to rehabilitation or restorative-related therapies. Other amenities such as transportation, assistance with shopping/errands, hair salon, EMSA membership, TV, cable TV, ventilator care, wellness programs and on-site health services may also be available. When these amenities are listed as “included” – there is no additional cost; when listed as “available” – an additional cost may apply. “Features” includes a variety of additional options. Nursing facilities in Oklahoma are licensed under the Nursing Home Care Act, 63 O.S., Section 1-1901 et seq. and the Regulations for Licensure of Nursing and Specialized Facilities, OAC 310:675. State licensure is required. Medicare or Medicaid certification is optional, but a facility must be certified in order to accept Medicare or Medicaid as a payment option.

*Facilities stating that they provide special care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia must adhere to Oklahoma’s Alzheimer’s disease Special Care Disclosure Act. This law provides for the disclosure of information on special care provided to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders at nursing and specialized nursing facilities, residential care homes and assisted living centers licensed by the Oklahoma State department of Health. Available documents are the Alzheimer’s Disease Special Care Disclosure Act (63 O.S. 2001, Section 1-879.2a et seq.) and the Alzheimer's Disease Special Care Disclosure Rules (OAC 310:673).
