SHIP at LIFE Helps Medicare Beneficiaries Save almost $845,000
LIFE's Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP) at LIFE Senior Services, sponsored by the Oklahoma Insurance Department, had another busy year in 2011 providing information and education to people who became eligible for Medicare last year.
We also provided un-biased, personalized counseling to many beneficiaries as they reviewed their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage options. During the eight-week enrollment period, more than 64% of the people we met with either enrolled in Part D for the first time or switched their plans. Almost all of them will save money on their prescription drug costs this year with an average savings of $1,428 per person. The total savings for 2012 was an outstanding $844,680.
Special thanks to our volunteers who donated almost 600 hours of volunteer time to help make this possible.
