Musical Mondays, a concert series designed especially for Tulsa-area seniors, is returning for its 12th season, with five Monday evening concerts set for April – August. Presented by LIFE Senior Services, the series features some of Tulsa’s most talented and respected musicians, including Russell Neas & His Orchestra, Talk of Tulsa Show Chorus, Booker Gillespie with Amy Cottingham, Begonias, and Steve Ham & the Jambalaya Jass Band. 

The Performing Arts Center at Cascia Hall is home for the series. Tickets are on sale and may be purchased for the entire series or by individual performances. Season tickets for all five concerts are only $35, and individual shows are $8 each. All tickets are general admission seating.

Russell Neas and His Orchestra kick off LIFE’s Musical Mondays’ series on April 22nd.  Russell Neas, a WWII Veteran, has a plethora of experience in the Big Band arena. He is a skilled vocalist as well as trumpet, French horn, drum and accordion player. He began leading Big Bands in 1940, with Eddie Bartholomew Orchestra, Jack Bray Orchestra, Bob Scott Orchestra and Eddie Strickler Orchestra. He is joined by his extremely talented bandmates and Holly Fisher, who performs locally with Starlight Concert Band, the Asbury Power & Light Praise Band and the Tulsa Community Band, as well as many other area music groups.

Talk of Tulsa Show Chorus

During the week they are nurses, executives, moms, secretaries, teachers, sales reps, wives, neighbors and friends, and on June 10th they will bring their championship talent to the stage. The chorus is well known for its four-part a capella harmony featuring a wide selection of music ranging from jazz and big band to pop, gospel and more. In 2013 they will represent Region 25 of Sweet Adelines at the international competition in Hawaii.

Booker Gillespie’s concert June 24th will highlight his love of soulful and theatrical musical selections. Gillespie’s musical/acting career includes performances in Hair, The King and I, Aida and The Magic Flute. Currently he sings with the cover band M.I.C. and always enjoys performing with Amy Cottingham. Amy Cottingham began playing the piano and violin at age three. She sings, composes, arranges, transcribes, teaches and performs Classical and Jazz. She has performed multiple solo concerts and traveled around the world performing with vocal and instrumental ensembles.

On July 22nd Rick Bentley on guitar, Terry Bentley on upright bass and drummer David Blue will treat the audience with American Musical Standards as the primary concert focus but the trio enjoys throwing in some variety to spice up the mix. If you like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin, this concert is for you. Begonia likes to remember The Rat Pack!

On August 19th, Steve Ham & Jambalaya Jass Band will bring the excitement of New Orleans to Tulsa with a repertoire of beautiful ballads such as What a Wonderful World to hard-driving songs such as Sweet Georgia Brown, sprinkled with old spiritual crowd pleasers like A Closer Walk and Down by the Riverside.
